Born and raised among the pine forests and salt marshes of Virginia’s Eastern Shore, Hunter McWaters’ roots are firmly planted in the traditions of the Chesapeake Bay. While he grew up waterfowling alongside his father, a single whitetail hunt sparked a lifelong obsession with big game that eventually pulled him toward higher altitudes.

In 2019, a DIY backcountry expedition to East-Central Alaska proved to be a definitive turning point. That trip redefined his approach to the outdoors, leading Hunter to fully immerse himself in the physical and spiritual rigors of mountain hunting. This relentless drive is perhaps best captured in his recent viral pursuit of a massive Texas Aoudad; a hunt defined by brutal terrain and sheer perseverance. Navigating the vertical rimrock of the Chinati Mountains, Hunter proved that whether he’s in the Alaskan bush or the Texas desert, he is most at home where the challenge is greatest.
